As I approach my ordination to the priesthood, I am extremely grateful for all of the people that have been a part of my journey. When I first started discerning whether or not I had a call to the priesthood, I came across a quote that really struck me: “God will never send you where His grace cannot sustain you”. Fr. Bob Bedard used to always challenge the faithful to surrender to the Lord and tell Him: “Lord, I will go wherever you want me to go. I will do whatever you want me to do”. When I was 22 years old I took the risk of praying this “dangerous prayer” as a part of my discernment. Why is this often referred to as a dangerous prayer? Because it requires giving God permission to come into our lives and guide us according to His plan. At times, this is certainly not easy, but God always provides the grace for us to step out into the unknown and trust Him every step of the way.

Part of my journey, involved my internship year at St. Maurice, and this was a very important part of my formation. While at St. Maurice, I had the opportunity to witness such a beautiful community of faith. The priests, staff, ministry leaders, and volunteers helped me to see what it means to work together in order to help bring people to encounter Christ, grow in their faith, and become missionary disciples. This experience certainly gave me further confirmation that I was indeed being called to be a priest of Jesus Christ. My year at St. Maurice gave me a deeper desire and hunger to be a shepherd in the Church. I am grateful for all of the people who have spent so much of their time praying for me and supporting me along the way.

Now, as I approach the sacrament of Holy Orders I ask for your continued prayers so that I may become a holy and faithful Catholic priest. I pray that St. Maurice will continue to be a strong community of faith where more vocations will be fostered and many others will respond to God’s will.

May God bless you all,

-Dcn. Miguel Perez, CC
